Storage Creekmouth Health and Safety Policy
Storage Creekmouth is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees, customers, contractors and visitors. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks across our storage facilities and removal operations, including packing, loading, transport and unloading of goods.
Our goal is to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health through effective planning, training and supervision. We believe that high standards of safety are essential to quality service and the protection of people, property and the environment.
Management Responsibility and Commitment
Senior management at Storage Creekmouth has overall responsibility for health and safety performance. Management will provide appropriate resources, information, training and supervision to enable employees to work safely and to protect customers and visitors while on our premises or interacting with our removal teams.
Managers will regularly review this policy, monitor compliance and update procedures in line with changing operations, best practice and applicable health and safety requirements. Clear responsibilities are assigned to supervisors and team leaders to implement and enforce safe systems of work.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of those who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must follow company procedures, use equipment correctly, attend training, and co operate with management on all health and safety matters.
Employees are required to report hazards, near misses, accidents and unsafe conditions immediately to their supervisor so appropriate action can be taken. No employee will be penalised for raising genuine safety concerns.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Storage Creekmouth will carry out regular risk assessments of its storage facilities, offices, vehicles and removal activities. These assessments will identify significant hazards and define suitable control measures to reduce risk to an acceptable level.
Safe systems of work will be developed for key operations, including but not limited to manual handling of goods, use of trolleys and lifting equipment, stacking and racking in storage units, vehicle loading and unloading, and working in confined or restricted spaces such as storage corridors and loading bays.
Risk assessments will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, equipment, or working practices.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is a core element of our storage and removal services. To reduce the risk of strain, sprain and back injuries, Storage Creekmouth will provide manual handling training and guidance to all staff involved in lifting, carrying or moving goods.
Employees must assess each lift before starting work, use mechanical aids such as sack trucks and pallet trucks where appropriate, and seek assistance for heavy, awkward or bulky items. Correct lifting techniques must be followed at all times.
Customers are encouraged to pack loads sensibly, avoid overloading boxes and highlight fragile or unusually heavy items to our staff.
Vehicles, Driving and Transport
Our vehicles and removal equipment will be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Drivers must hold the appropriate licence, follow company driving procedures and comply with all relevant road safety rules.
Loads must be safely distributed, properly secured and checked before departure. Particular care will be taken to prevent shifting loads, falling items and damage to goods in transit. Drivers must not operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or any substance that could impair safe driving.
Storage Facilities and Site Safety
Storage Creekmouth will ensure that its storage premises are designed and maintained to promote safety. This includes adequate lighting, clear access routes, well marked fire exits and appropriate housekeeping to keep walkways free from obstruction.
Stacking and shelving systems will be used within safe load limits, and units will be inspected for structural integrity. Any damage or defect to doors, locks, shutters, stairs or walkways must be reported immediately.
Customers using storage units must follow all posted safety instructions, keep aisles clear, and store goods in a stable and secure manner. Hazardous or prohibited materials must not be brought onto the premises.
Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
Fire safety is a priority at our sites. Storage Creekmouth will maintain appropriate fire detection and firefighting equipment and ensure that exits and escape routes are clearly marked and kept clear at all times.
Emergency procedures, including evacuation routes and assembly points, will be communicated to employees and displayed on site. Staff will receive training in emergency response, including the safe evacuation of customers and the raising of alarms.
Health, Welfare and First Aid
We will provide appropriate welfare facilities for employees, including access to rest areas, drinking water and sanitary facilities. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for employees with specific health needs to enable them to work safely.
First aid equipment will be available at our premises and in our vehicles as appropriate, and a sufficient number of trained first aiders will be appointed. All accidents, however minor, must be recorded in the accident reporting system to support investigation and prevention.
Training, Information and Supervision
Storage Creekmouth will ensure that all employees receive suitable induction and ongoing training relevant to their roles. This will cover safe working practices, use of equipment, manual handling, vehicle safety, emergency procedures and customer interaction in a safe manner.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices, correcting unsafe behaviour and providing additional guidance where needed. Health and safety information will be communicated through briefings, signage and written instructions.
Contractors, Visitors and Customers
Contractors working on our premises must follow Storage Creekmouth safety rules and any specific site instructions. Where necessary, method statements and risk assessments will be requested and checked before work begins.
Visitors and customers will be made aware of relevant safety information while on site. Access to operational areas will be controlled, and children or vulnerable persons must be closely supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Continuous Improvement
Storage Creekmouth is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We will set objectives, review incident trends and seek feedback from employees and customers to identify opportunities for improvement.
This policy is communicated to all employees and is made available to customers and other interested parties. It will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains suitable, adequate and effective in supporting safe storage and removal operations.
